Equine-Assisted Activities

All of these programs are designed for Independent Riders or Participants.
Independent Riders or Participants are individuals who are capable of controlling their body in relation to a horse' movement and stays fairly well balanced during the majority of any mounted activity.  Independent Riders or Participants (a) do not need significant assistance mounting or dismounting; (b) do not need physical assistance during an emergency dismount; or (c) may not be able to perform a clean emergency dismount and (d) are relatively satisfied with coming in direct contact with the ground in an emergency.

Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL)

EAL focuses on acquiring specific skills as defined by the participant or a team with emphasis on relationship skills, leadership/management skills, and/or resiliency training.

Note: Mounted and unmounted horsemanship skills are not taught.

Equine Handling (EH)

EH is designed to enhance a participant’s knowledge of unmounted horsemanship skills and personal growth while learning effective ways to handle and interact with horses using round pen techniques and lunging.

Recreational Riding (RR)

RR offers instruction in mounted and unmounted equestrian skills to able-bodied participants. Mounted equestrian disciplines include English or Western along with respective categories such as dressage, hunter, saddle seat, western pleasure, reining, and trail.

Stable Management (SM)

SM offers instruction in the correct ways to care for horses.  Topics include equine anatomy, nutritional needs and types of hay and grains, veterinarian and farrier care, basic management techniques, grooming and bathing techniques, braiding and clipping, tack and equipment, and stall beddings.

Note:  Mounted horsemanship skills are not taught.
